Launched! bobo design studio

Angie is the owner and founder of bobo design studio a lovely stationery shop in Palm Springs, CA. Shopping in her store is like folding a paper airplane and then climbing aboard as the pilot, flight crew, and first-class passenger. Angie says “our goal is to encourage and enable people to build deeper connections to their experiences in an analog way.”

Our goal was to redesign her Shopify store to reflect the values of her retail store; to inspire more exploration and engagement and offer mental refreshment in between calls to action. We’re thrilled with how it turned out and excited to continue working with Angie.

Client requests

I'd love your advice on how to best use a discount to encourage buyers but nothing over 5% and or (free shipping). Don't  cheapen my brand.

Discounts can feel like they're cheapening a premium brand. We'd recommend free shipping at a smart threshold.

  • Behaviorally, free shipping often converts better than an equivalent small discount.
  • A threshold nudges towards larger carts and reads as hospitality, not as a sale.

One strategy is to identify your current average order value (AOV) and set your free shipping threshold slighly higher.

And then, keep any small percentage discount invisible to the general public and reserved for an inner circle.

The 5-website concept

We think of the websites we design and build as 5 websites in one.

When we first started designing for the web, a site was a site. Then, we started designing for mobile devices and then for all the different sizes of desktops, laptops, tablets, and phones.

Now we also think of visitors who are impaired (or simply not eagle-eyed) trying to navigate and use the site, and those using assistive devices like screen readers.

And finally we also think of non-human visitors like search engine crawlers and AI agents trying to access a site’s meta data or the api-accessible data from a platform like Shopify.

  1. Desktop
  2. Mobile
  3. Accessible
  4. Storefront robot (search engine crawl)
  5. API (universal commerce)

For each of these scenarios we want to optimize the site so the visitor can find everything they’re looking for, and for the first three, to make sure they feel welcome and not an afterthought.

We want to be oasis makers.
